1930s Rock Crystal, English handcarved Arts and Crafts, a matched pair, the work of Maud Eastman (1878 – 1950), an eminent London jewellery designer of the inter-war years, with a shop on the ground floor of the Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly. When the shop closed at the beginning of the Second World War, her work was sold through stores the like of Asprey and Fortnam & Mason.

Rock Crystal is the colourless form of Quartz Crystal, of the same crystal family as lilac Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Citrine and Smokey Quartz. It has been appreciated for its clarity and elegance since most ancient times, always associated with spiritual energy and purity. In the medieval period the Crystal Ball, a sphere of solid Rock Crystal, was a tool of divination. Its appeal as a gemstone is eternal.
