African Amethysts, from Zambia or Mozambique, e.g., are reputed to possess a deeper darker stronger lilac colour than Amethysts from Brazil, and command a premium price for this reputation. But while it is true that often enough Brazilian Amethysts will exhibit a quite pale colour, there are a number of mines in Brazil which produce excellent strong colours.
