Fine Tahitian Black Pearl. Pearl is an organic, rather than crystal, gemstone, one of only a handful of true organic gemstones, along with Amber and Coral and Jet for example. The Tahitian Black Pearl is cultivated in the waters of the islands around Tahiti, from the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera oyster, a large oyster which can produce quite large Pearls. The 11 to 13mm Pearl in the above pendant is a fine example of the silver-grey variety of the Tahitian Black Pearl, and naturally formed in a very pleasing teardrop shape.
The pendant fitting, created by hand in Sydney in 18ct White Gold, is simplicity itself.
