10mm Moonstone Cabochon, Handmade Silver Ring. The origin of the above gemstone is India, one of the world’s biggest sources of this gemstone. The above is a good example of the premium quality of India’s Moonstone, with its shifting shimmer of light in movement. There is a brightness in this shimmer, upon a silver-grey translucent background, that has become difficult to source. This particular Moonstone was mined in the 1990s; the more contemporary Indian Moonstone material, of the 2020s, tends to be less translucent, more milky in hue, and lacking the brightness of shimmer, or “adularescence” as it is technically named.
The handmade ring setting is a very nice piece of work, the two lines of twisted wire-work swooping gently down to follow the contour of the band, giving the ring the look and the feel of a medieval gem.
