8x6mm Green Peridot, oval facetted. Peridot is one of the very few gemstones that exist in only one colour, in the case of Peridot an olive green of varying intensities.
The above 8x6mm Green Peridot is an excellent example of this gemstone, translucent, clean of face, of good sharp grassy green, unmistakable in any light but quite sharp in bright light.
Peridot has been prized since ancient times, though seemingly not methodically mined until around 300 years before the Roman Empire when the first Ptolomy of Egypt took a fancy to it and exploited deposits on an arid island in the Red Sea.
