So French, Antique Silver locket of the 1800s, superfine French formal hand-engraving back and front, framed in  horizontal “fabric” lines, the locket round, 22mm across.

Very good condition outside and inside, where, in a typical French construction, the flange securing the image has its own little handle, allowing much easier removal than in those of its English equivalents. Very nice. (This can be seen in the image of locket’s interior.)

So French, Antique Silver Locket. From La Belle Epoque, late 1800s. Typical fine hand-engraving, quite classical, no trace of Chinoiserie or Arts’n’Crafts. The meticulously worked lined background of the central engraved motifs, back and front, provide the formality of a tapestry, but in Silver.
The above locket is very nicely handmade, and in excellent condition, with proper closing mechanism. The original glass of the interior, behind which the photo or twist of hair would have sat, is no more -the original interior glass of antique lockets, French or English, was always so thin that it virtually never survived, and is impossible to replace in the modern era- but the original metal flange, securely holding in place the perspex which has now replaced the original too-fragile glass, is still in place, and in perfect condition.
Altogether, a rare intact example of fine Belle Epoque craftsmanship.
