Multi Strand Antique Silver bracelet, English 1880s or earlier, originally a Victorian lady’s watch fob chain, or Albertina, the lady’s equivalent to the Albert: a chain connecting a part of clothing, e.g. a button hole, to a valuable watch which could be put in a pocket, making losing the watch more difficult.
Ladies’ Albertinas were always considerably more ornate than Alberts, usually created with three or more chains, an engraved slider through which the chains threaded, and a tassel, along with the usual bar and swivel clasp. The above example is without the tassel and the bar, both of which can be a problem for the bracelet wearer, catching and hooking on things, and has had the swivel clasp replaced with a new, sturdy bolt-ring spring clasp, robust and definitely more easy to use.
