Solid Curb Link English Antique Silver Albert chain. The bar is stamped with a boxed cursive script capital “N”, the Chester Silver mark for the year 1913, as are both clasps.  Birmingham also has a cursive script “N” as a date stamp, but for the year 1963. The wear of the stamps, however, indicated an assay date much earlier than 1963, and a close examination revealed, on one of the thicker curb links on one length of chain, the Chester symbol of a set of scales. The bar and the clasps and virtually all the links are stamped with the Lion Passant, the walking lion, which is the mark of English Silver, denoting it as being 925 Silver content (925 parts Silver out of 1000).
Each of the dozens of curb links carry the stamp of the Lion Passant. These lion walking stamps are very buffed, indicating a fair amount of wear over the 100 odd years since it was handcrafted. The chain is quite robust, in very good condition.

Note that the two lengths of above Solid Curb Link Albert are graduated from the centre, each length being of smallest link size at its ends. The curb links graduate from 7.2mm width to 4.9mm width. Its weight is a substantial 37.4 grams.
