Scorpio Gold pendant. The above zodiac symbol for Scorpio (24 October to 22 November) has its origin in ancient Mesopotamia, the thinking being that the zodiac system to which it belonged dates back around 5000 years, to circa 3000 years before the Romans.
Mesopotamia (from Ancient Greek “between the rivers”) refers to the region between two great rivers in what is now Iraq, the Euphrates River and the Tigris River.
After the last ice age circa 13000 years ago the region over time became what is now called a “cradle of civilization” (the wheel was invented there}; agriculture allowed some folk to have the time to star gaze, and wonder and talk about what they saw, and what they thought they saw, with other star gazers. Over a long, long period of time, of thousands and thousands of years, the star gazers formulated their accumulated knowledge and observations into the first zodiac system, in signs and symbols and writing.
The Scorpio Gold pendant above is from that ancient system, crafted in Sydney in 18ct Red Gold, red being the Scorpio colour.
