18ctGold Handmade Sydney chain. For many years now, really, since the 1980s, very few Australian bench jewellers capable of the meticulous clean craft required to produce quality the like of the above 18ctGold Handmade chain, have occupied themselves with chain making; it is work that might be described as repetitive and dirty and very time consuming, time that a competent bench jeweller might much more profitably spend handmaking the ring setting for a costly Ruby, or Diamond.
The above 18ctGold Handmade chain linkage is in an English Arts’n’Crafts design of the late 1800s, simply elongated links joined by round links, all of a uniform .75mm round thickness of solid 18ctGold. There are almost five dozen links, every one perfectly formed, and every one having to be most cleanly soldered closed, by hand.
The 18ctGold wire used to securely integrate seven old gemstone Corals into the chain is also of .75mm round thickness.
Total weight of 18ct Gold in above necklace is 8.5 grams. As of April 2025 an imported Italian machine-made 18ct Gold chain of the same weight would cost more in a jewellery store than costs the above, and the above is handcrafted, crafted in Sydney, and with an extra 2.7 grams  in the seven lovely old Coral gemstone beads. (Total weight of the necklace, including the gemstone Corals, is 11.2 grams.)
