Precious Corals, from an Antique English 9ct Gold cuff link set, with the original handmade 9ct Gold cappings and one link of the handmade 9ct Gold four-link chain originally connecting the Precious Corals to the 9ct Gold elliptical forms that threaded through the shirt button holes.
The original gemstone Coral and 9ct Gold cuff link set dated to the very late Victorian period or the very early 1900s. Victorian England much appreciated gemstone Coral, in all the variations of its colours from the waters around Sicily and Sardinia, from the palest pink to the deepest red, but tended to favour the mid range of pink to orange-red. Certainly one sees little of the very deep red in the Coral used in Victorian times.
The pink of the above gemstone Mediterranean Coral pair is gorgeous; it was the colour often used in Victorian Coral strands.

Note the 9ct Gold safety clip earhooks: they are called “continentals” in the English jewellery trade and are made in either Italy or Germany. Neat and elegant, these safety clip earhooks, when properly closed, make the eardrop less likely to be dislodged from the ear than would be the case with an open hook. This “continental” type of earhook in Gold, however, is imported, and costly. The price of the above beautiful and unique Coral earrings would be less were the standard 9ct Gold earhooks used instead of the “continentals”.
