Articulated Coral, Turquoise and Silver Bracelet.
Fine quality gemstone Coral, well-matched in cut, size and excellent deep orange-red colour, handcut in Sth India 1960s/1970s, almost certainly from the same Coral branch, definitely of Mediterranean origin. There is a tradition of gifting strands of small matched Coral gemstone beads across all of South India, a tradition dating back centuries. There would be no region in the world where gemstone Coral is more appreciated.
The Turquoise in the above “Articulated Coral” bracelet is natural and untreated, origin Arizona. Purchased in the rough by Jaipuri gem dealers, it has been handcut in Jaipur into beads of a flattish cylindrical shape, an ancient bead cut excavated often over the last hundred years or so in Bactria, northern Afghanistan, and adjacent territories, mostly in beads of Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise and Carnelian.
All the Turquoise beads in the above bracelet show the natural matrix, the mother rock of Turquoise.
