Gold Silver. Gold and Silver, a precious metal combination that has been around forever. In more modern times, the combination was used extensively in fine jewellery in the English Regency period of the early 1800s and into the late Georgian period and beyond. Usually the Silver/Gold combination was used in gemstone jewellery, the gemstone setting face crafted in Silver and soldered onto the Gold understructure. It was still being used in late Victorian times but mostly in the form of little blooms and butterflies and such on a Gold brooch or pendant.
The above ring was handcrafted in Sydney in the late 1990s. The cone is in Silver, the band solid 9ct Gold, as is the actual setting edge for the gemstone Garnet; and 9ct Gold rivets have been inserted into the Silver cone.
