Ridged Fleur-de-Lys 9ct Gold band. The Fleur-de-Lys has been an emblem of France a very long time, associated with French royalty since at least as far back as 1000ad in the High Middle Ages. It is usually said to be translatable to Flower of the Lily, but scholars seem to think the symbol related more to the yellow irises abundant on the banks of a river named Lys, or something approximating, in Flanders, where the Franks lived hundreds of years before moving south.
The Fleur-de-Lys became the most recognised heraldic symbol of France and is  encountered all over the country. One of its most remarkable ornamental uses is in the upper level of the 11th century Sainte-Chapelle on the Isle de la Cite.
