White Opal Solid (Coober Pedy, Australia origin), 8.15mm x 6.9mm oval, 1.43ct weight, with full “play of colour” in greens, reds and yellows, flanked with two fine natural red gemstone Rubies, AGrade commercial quality .15ct in the two gemstones; in a very strong ring setting handcrafted in Sydney in solid 9ct Gold; the three gemstones professionally set in Sydney by a master gemstone setter.
The most rare and most costly Opal gemstone is the Black Opal, so named for its flash of colours against a dark background, and to be at its best it must have those flashes of colour across the entire surface of the gemstone, without dark patches lacking any flash; when its “play of colour” is full, without voids, it is at its best. The same applies to any Opal, black or not, and in the above White Opal Solid the play of colour is across the entire surface, exhibiting a full, gentle, scintillating kaleidoscope of greens and reds and yellows.
The fine deep red of the flanking AGrade Rubies provide an excellent foil to the Opal colour complexity.
