Georgian Model. The finely detailed oval top of this ring is a faithful copy of the top of an early 1800s Georgian neck-tie pin, used to keep in place at the throat the billows of the fine silk tie fashionable for both men and women of affluence in that English period. The original was of Gold and of the same dimensions, but set with a small rose cut Diamond of a dark adamantine glint.
The very sturdy two-prong band of the above ring has been designed in Sydney to work with the likes of this Georgian Model top, and despite its solidity has a fine delicate line.
The old dark Diamond in the original was bead-set in an incised “star-burst” exactly as is the above AGrade red 4pt Ruby. Bead setting is where the setter, with a metal scorper, pushes up beads of the setting metal over the edge of the gemstone. Eight such “beads” hold this fine little red Ruby in place, the professional work of one of Sydney’s best gemstone setters.
