Exotic Silver earrings, old Rajasthan. These date back to around the mid-1900s. Originally they were made as cloth ornaments, to be sewn on in a row of six or seven, to glint and move when worn, and to be a visible token of wealth, for the pieces are handcrafted in high-grade Silver, approx 90%. One of the images above shows, on the rear of one of the pieces, the sturdy Silver rings used in the fastening to the cloth.
The whole look of this pair, the detail, the solidity, the green and red glass simulating Emerald and Ruby, is distinctly Rajasthani, and is the look still to be seen among the Tribals on the outskirts of every town in that fabled region.
(Note: settings were too dark in taking above images; the green and the red of the glass is much more pronounced than is shown in the images, more bright.)
