Compact Pearl and solid 9ct Gold pendant, Sydney created and crafted.
After the 9ct Gold pendant has been crafted and cleaned up it is presented to our gemstone setter, along with the fine white half Pearl, with a clean face, no holes, just a clean plain blank face. The gemstone setter scorps out the resting space for the half Pearl, then, again using the scorper, cuts into the Gold the four main arms of the star. Finally, the setter cuts four smaller triangular-shaped scoops between each of the four main arms and shapes the Gold from those smaller cuts into granules, or “beads”, forcing each onto the girdle of the half Pearl. Thus the half Pearl is held firmly in place by the press of the four “beads”. This is the technique known as “bead setting”.
