Gold Silver. Gold and Silver, a precious metal combination that has been around forever. In more modern times, the combination was used extensively in fine jewellery in the English Regency period of the early 1800s and into the late Georgian period and beyond. Usually the Silver/Gold combination was used in gemstone jewellery, the gemstone setting face crafted in Silver and soldered onto the Gold understructure. In the early 1800s it was discovered how to make Platinum malleable, and by the 1880s Platinum had replaced Silver in these Victorian Silver and Gold combinations.
The beauty of the combination of Silver and Gold in jewellery was largely overlooked for a century, however from the late 1900s contemporary jewellery has made it once more an item.
The above ring was handcrafted in Sydney in the late 1990s. The “mushroom” cone is in Silver, the band solid 9ct Gold, as is the actual setting edge for the gemstone Garnet; and 9ct Gold rivets have been inserted into the Silver cone.
In the solid 9ct Gold band and the gemstone bezel setting there is 2.85 grams of 9ct Yellow Gold
