Moonstone 15mm round cabochon, 9ct Gold pendant. The Moonstone in the above pendant has its origin in India, the world’s biggest source of this gemstone. The above Moonstone is the best of its type, with a superb pearly translucency and  a characteristic deep sheen that follows the source of strong light.
This is a quality of Moonstone now not readily available; purchased in the late 1970s, it has a pellucid quality lacking in the large Moonstone cabochons in the marketplace in the 2020s, which are virtually all quite milky in character, and not possessing the depth and mysteriousness of an old-mine gemstone such as the above.
The 9ct Gold pendant mount has been created in Sydney purely for this size, cut and shape of Moonstone. Very open at the rear, its four claws are not of flimsy construct, and the gemstone has been professionally set in Sydney by a master gemstone setter.
