Handworked Traditional Silver beads, crafted in the early 1970s in Haryana, the state in which India’s capital New Delhi sits. Interesting to think how a bead like this is created by hand using tools which any western bench jeweller would describe as rudimentary. The basic is a sheet of Silver plate that narrows at each end; the six or seven flutes are hand-hammered into shape, drawing the plate into its approximate fluted rounded shape; when soldered together it requires the addition of the granulated hole ends. Quite a work, really, a work that no western bench jeweller would contemplate attempting in Gold, let alone Silver.
The small gem-quality Corals are from Sth India, dating back to pre-Independence. Coral, in branch form, has been traded into Sth India forever, from the waters off Taiwan, then from the Mediterranean.
