Colours Tourmaline, natural untreated gemstone colours, from pink and violet, through citrus and green to dusky orange browns. Few gemstones have the range and delicacy of colour of Tourmaline.
Tourmaline is known for its occasional “rainbow” effect, where the crystal shows clearly more than one colour. There is a good example of this Rainbow Tourmaline in the above “Colours Tourmaline” strand, with a distinct light green and pink in the same crystal bead.
Sri Lankan Tourmaline early popularized the gemstone in Europe, but it was uncovered in commercial quantities in the 20thCentury in quite a few spots in both Africa and Asia. The beads in the above strand have their source in Afghanistan, and have been cut and faceted and drilled in Bangkok. The necklace as seen here is created in Sydney, strung on tiger-tail and finished with 9ct Gold end ring and spring clasp.
