Coiled Earstuds of Silver handcrafted.
Superb workmanship: a tapering frame is made in the right length in a flat line, slightly elliptical and ridged, the ridge being the polished outer rim of the finished item; a very finely granulated thin Silver plate is created to the exact right length, to just the right width for wrapping about, and fixing to, the elliptical profile of the frame inside the ridge.
Once the granulated sheet is fixed to the frame, then there is the process of creating the corkscrew effect, through annealing and working around an especially made jig.
A lot of work, a lot of preparation and thought and calculation and concentration, to get it right. These were handmade in one of the Silver workshops outside Ubud in Bali some thirty odd years ago.It is highly doubtful, now in the mid-2020s, that those same workshops would want to bother with such painstaking, labour-intensive work in Silver. This is the sort of work that historically was only employed in costly 20ct Gold jewellery.
Another nice touch in these Coiled Earstuds is the little natural Emeralds set in 20ct Gold at the top of the coils, the stud ear-post directly behind the setting.
