Amber Butterscotch Chunks. These beads come from a long graduated string of such beads, ranging to quite large around the front, each bead individually handcut and different and irregular, but all cut in planes, and all, of course, in shades of the Baltic yellow Amber (“butterscotch”), so loved by aficionadoes of Baltic Amber, and also by Tibetans, to whom it was introduced, one presumes, by British traders in the 1800s.
The original strand from which came the chunks in the above eardrops would definitely have been fashioned in one of the Baltic States post WW11.
The Coral in the above is old, from South India, originally Mediterranean, at least as old as the butterscotch Amber.
Probably the oldest components in these earrings are the old Tribal Silver beads, from Afghanistan mid-1900s or before, handmade and rare.
