9ctGold Chain with fine old Corals. The 9ct Gold Chain of the above necklace is of a fine cable-link, of a quite sturdy 1mm thickness, Italian made with 9ct Gold “parrot” spring clasp. Seven old Sth Indian native-cut gemstone Corals have been integrated into the chain, Sydney hand-work, using lengths of solid 9ct Gold 0.5mm round wire, secured with a twist-wire technique at each bead end.
2.7 grams of 9ct Gold chain have been used in the above necklace, chain recently purchased (October 2024) from a Sydney supplier. There are four components in the pricing of the above necklace, not including GST: the fine rare old gemstone Corals; the Italian 9ct Gold chain; the seven connecting segments of 9ct Gold Sydney-made wire; and the Sydney handwork in the creation of those Coral connections. The component cost of the Italian 9ct Gold chain is greater than all the rest put together.
Between October 2024 and end December 2024, the wholesale purchase price of this type of well-made Italian 9ct Gold chain has increased by more than 7%, purely because the world price of Gold is on a seemingly inexorable rise.
The nicely matched Corals in the above are old handcut Sth Indian, dating back to the 1950s/1960s, originally from the Mediterranean. There is a tradition in Sth India of gifting Coral bead necklaces to mark special occasions; it is still a tradition today.
