15mm Amber Yellow Pair. This lovely old matching pair of “butterscotch” Amber, sourced in Bangkok from an Indian trader in old gem Corals and Amber, were originally probably from a graduated antique English strand of such yellow Baltic Amber, all cut round, and these two 15mm Amber beads by no means the largest in the strand. Old beads of either Coral or Amber, in places east of Europe, especially in the sub-continent and its region, where they were, and still are, held in high regard, were virtually never cut in a regular round form, but rather were they cut in barrel shapes, or squat, or “button”, in so-called “native” cuts.
Certainly the origin of the above Amber was the Baltic, for the Baltic region alone is where this particular opaque “butterscotch” Amber was found.
The four cupped filigree beads capping each end of the two old yellow Ambers are traditionally handmade in 20ct Gold; the rest of the Gold used, in the posts and earhooks, is handmade in Sydney in solid 18ct Gold.
Note: the weight of 18ct/20ct Gold used in the above eardrops is 4.13 grams and this constitutes, as of mid 2024, by far the largest component in the end price of these precious earrings.
