Natural Lapis Lazuli oblongs, a perfectly matched pair cut side by side from the same Afghani rough Lapis Lazuli rock, profusely, characteristically included with naturally occurring pyrites, with some calcite. Turn either of this matched pair in the light and the pyrites glint gold and silver; the underlying colour being a beautiful deep blue, ultramarine in essence, the surface of each is akin to a galactic night sky.
The source of the rough Lapis rock from which the above Natural Lapis Lazuli oblongs were cut is the same that supplied the ancient Egyptian world with the dark blue of that civilization’s favourite colour combination of red, light blue and dark blue, used in much inlay work, namely the inhospitable mountainous regions of the far north-east of Afghanistan.
(The light blue of the above-mentioned favourite colour combination was provided by Turquoise, the red by reddish-brown Carnelian.)
Note: while the earhooks of the above Lapis eardrops are of Sterling Silver, i.e Silver of 92.5% purity, the settings for the Lapis oblongs were hand-worked in almost pure .999 Silver.
