Finely Worked Silver and handcut ovoid beads of bamboo, in a necklace strung on double cording. This is a period piece from the 1980s, seldom worn if at all. In the 1980s there were a number of creatives, mostly Sumatran, working in the Kuta/Legian area of Bali, making very interesting necklaces, of old glass beads, Indonesian and Chinese, and conch, and natural materials such as the above bamboo. These pieces were high-end, nicely assembled of fine components, properly, strongly strung, made for the discerning tourist and/or expatriate.
The Silver beads, handcrafted and intricately granulated, were and still are a staple of Bali Silver bead-work, though often not as well-made as the above. Granulated Silver beads such as these have long been crafted in some northern parts of India, but rarely to such high standard.
