White Half Pearl, 9ct Gold pendant. This White Half Pearl is natural, not plastic. It is Chinese cultured but is in essence natural, for it cannot be produced by the normal Pearl cultivation technique of inserting an irritant into the mollusc, for the mollusc to, over a period, secrete nacre to cover and isolate it. These little round half Pearls, if they are genuine Pearl, are solid nacre all the way through, with no hollow interior where the irritant was, a hollow needing resin to fill.
They are obviously somewhat of a problem to produce, and time consuming, for not only are they difficult to source, they are, given their small size, quite costly.
The above White Half Pearl is of the best white and the best lustre possible to source in Sydney. It has been professionally bead set in Sydney, and given a neatly worked “star” surround by the same European trained gemstone setter.
The pendant is Sydney work, small, neat, solid and pretty. The second image in the above gallery gives a good indication of just how solid the little pendant is.
