Vintage Amber, Rare Old Silver. Vintage Amber beads, Baltic origin, from a strand of handcut beads created in the Baltic region (probably Polish, but possibly from one of the Baltic States) in the 1950s/1960s. Purchased recently in the south of England from a dealer in European antiques, on its original string and with a base metal clasp, it has provided a few reasonably well-matched pairs for eardrops. The Amber is of particularly fine rich “honey” colour, naturally included, as befits a natural fossilized tree resin dating back a million years and more.
The old fluted Silver beads originate in the Ghazni area of south-east Afghanistan, circa 1950s, totally handmade Tribal Silver of high Silver content, rare to find as single beads let alone in pairs.
Both the lovely old Vintage Amber and the rare Tribal Silver are flanked with London-made plain Silver beads of sizes and forms various.
The Silver earhooks are nicely formed, crafted by hand. Each eardrop weighs approx 5 grams, alright for most, a touch heavy for sensitive ears.
