58ct Natural Sapphire strand, the beads basically hand-cut and graduated, all slightly different, cut in a flattish oval shape, then tumble-polished. This lozenge shape is an ancient bead form, pleasing both to the touch and to the eye.
The origin of these 67 natural Sapphires is Thailand, where also the beads were cut and fashioned. The above 58ct Natural Sapphire strand has been created in Sydney, with the ten London-made 9ct Gold spacers, the end 9ct Gold ring and spring clasp, and the stranding itself, professionally worked on blue silk and knotted each bead.
Sapphire is a gemstone usually treated with high heat to remove some of the inclusions so characteristic of Corundum (Corundum being the Crystal family that comprises both Sapphire and Ruby, this latter being another gemstone usually heat-treated), to enhance clarity and colour. The above Sapphire gemstone beads are natural, have not been treated; the natural inclusions of this gemstone are visible in every bead, and the very good Sapphire blue of these beads is natural.
(Actually, in any case, this type of bead is not usually subject to any enhancement techniques; it is, however, rarely of such good Sapphire blue as the above, tending more to the grey-blue tinge.)
