Two Falcon Enamelled Silver pendant, created in Sydney in the early 1990s, cast from a model hand-worked in Silver, cleaned, the two rings soldered to the Two Falcon heads, gold-gilded then enamelled, all the work done in Sydney.
Out of quite which period of the Ancient Egypt 18th Dynasty comes this particular classic design, of vessel with Falcon figureheads, is not known – the 18th Dynasty covers c.1550 to 1292BC; it was immensely powerful, massively wealthy, and of unrivaled prestige – but the design is a study in simple perfection and was probably in use over generations of elites.
The over three thousand year-old original would have been of enamelled and inlaid Gold and considerably larger, almost certainly used as a ceremonial pectoral.
The excellent double-link Silver chain is an import, not Sydney-made. Silver chain of any type, let alone hand-worked AGrade Silver chain such as the above, has not been produced in Australia for decades; indeed, around the same period as the creation of our Two Falcon Enamelled Silver pendant, Victoria’s Austral Chain, the country’s last-standing and much-appreciated Silver chain producer, shut its doors without a buyer.
Very nice piece, the above Ancient Egypt piece, solid and mostly Sydney-made, different, simple and stylish.
