Tribal Honey Amber, Pearl, Ruby Necklace. The old centre bead of honey-coloured Amber has its origin in the Bay of Bengal. An early 1900s handcut bead of 20x13mm dimensions, its tubular form was created for a particular ethnic group in a tribal area of Nagaland, in the far north-east of India, a mountainous heavily wooded state of river valley after river valley, where the culture can vary superficially quite dramatically from valley to valley. In the valleys where this type of Amber had favour, it would be worn in whole strands of this sort of tubular bead, the centre beads of this type of strand shaped differently, almost triangular in form.
The tumble-polished purplish Ruby beads are genuine Corundum Ruby material, quite opaque. The two Ruby beads closest to the centre Amber are of better quality, sharper colour, and facetted.
Note the two Corals flanking the centre Amber, fine old gem-quality Corals, lovely orange-red colour.
The small red and dark blue glass beads are from old early 1900s multi-strand rope necklaces of such beads, another Nagaland favourite of 100 years ago.
