Southern Afghani Tribal Silver. The reverse of the above old Southern Afghani pendant shows the 1920s Persian/Afghani Silver coin around which the intricately worked pendant was created. Silver coins were often used as the base for Tribal Silver jewellery in Afghanistan and particularly in the north of the subcontinent (India and Pakistan), where a dozen Silver Rupee coins would be strung on strong cording with heavy solid Silver spacers, tokens of Tribal wealth and prestige.
This type of Tribal Silver coin jewellery was wiped away with the chaos of WWII and the ensuing new economic orders.
