Smart Silver Ring, handmade Moroccan. Traditional Moroccan Tribal Silver jewellery is known for strong styling, a look that is distinctive and, indeed, unique in the world of Ethnic Silver, and is almost exclusively the work of Berber Tribals. The above newly-handcrafted Smart Silver Ring is the work of Berber artisans, but while its styling is no doubt strong, its design has little to do with Berber traditions, rather it leans distinctly towards Tuareg jewellery concepts, from the nomadic desert folk of Mali, far to the south of the Atlas Mountain Range fastnesses of the Bedouin.
Tuareg jewellery motifs are even more distinctive than those of the Berber peoples, but while the form of the above Silver ring, and its handcarvings, both on the top face and the shank, have a definite Tuareg feel, the centre ornament of handpainted ceramic, and the very exactly-worked design element of layered wood and Silver, is not Tuareg, but rather the work of a highly-skilled artisan working in a well-equipped workshop.
This is very interesting work out of Morocco, aimed squarely at the European market.
