Ruby Red, a superior well-cut gemstone of deep clear vibrant red, a little over a third-carat in weight. The origin of the above “Ruby Red” is Mozambique, in a region that has been commercially mined for less than two decades, but which is already one of the largest world sources for quality Ruby crystal material.

Ruby is a very durable gemstone belonging to the Corundum crystal family, along with Sapphire; only Diamond in the gemstone world is harder. Sapphire comes in all sorts of colours, depending on its trace elements (e.g. iron, cobalt, magnesium), but Ruby is Corundum with enough of the trace element chromium to alter its absorption of light, to the point where it emits only pink to red.

The domed 9ct yellow Gold ring setting for this fine natural Ruby is very well proportioned, swelling from 1.4mm thickness at the rear to a depth of 3mm where it meets the gemstone setting, widening from 3mm at the rear to 7mm at the top. The top of the set Ruby gemstone sits a touch over 4mm above the finger.

The ring has a pleasant heft at 4.3 grams of solid 9ct Gold.
