Repousse Afghani Tribal Silver. This pendant pair is old, from the Herat region of west Afghanistan near the border with Iran, mid 1900s; the design, hammered in from the rear, is formal, of leaves and floral blooms, while the gold-gilt centre rounds show a Persian sun symbol, also created from a hammered punch.
This pair would have been two of a number of identical disc pendants sewn onto a head scarf or a shawl. High Silver content and nicely hand-worked, down to the applied, hand-scored ridge on each disc, indicating the prestige of the wearer.
