Original Old Tribal Silver Necklace. Northern India, mid 1900s, strung on rope, or twine. This sort of necklace stringing is still common all over the east, and very often, as is the case with the above, has no clasp at the rear, rather is simply tied.
When a catch is created in a “rope” necklace, it usually takes the form of a loop and a button, either a coin or a bead. Sometimes, as with the glass multi-strand necklaces of Nagaland, the multiple strands at the rear are worked into a plaided triangle of multi-coloured beads, creating a spectacular back-of-the-neck adornment.
