Old Resin, Old Coins, Old Beads, Silver Rope chain necklace. Hard to know the exact origin of the old resin bead, for this type of bead has been used from North Africa to Tibet, for its ease of production, its warmth of colour, and its similarity to much more rare natural Amber. This bead was sourced from an Afghani trader in Bangkok, along with some Tibetan Amber and some Moroccan silver. Whatever, a nice old bead.
The old Silver coins are British Raj 1/4 Rupee coins, 91.6% Silver content, as all Silver coinage of the British Raj was, no matter where in India the mint. All four denominations of the Rupee coinage were favourites of India’s Tribals; everyone knew what they were, everyone knew what they were worth.
The two 1/4 Rupees in the above necklace have been through so much wear that the image of George V and on the reverse the emblems of India and the British Isles have been worn completely away, and indeed are considerably thinner than when minted in the very early 1900s.
