Old Ganesh Tribal Silver medallions. From the Udaipur region of southern Rajasthan, mid 1900s. These small gods and goddesses talismans were stamped out over the centuries in great numbers, but searching through boxes of this sort of item in the back rooms of a Silver dealer in Jaipur or Old Delhi might offer not a single approximate pair. So, nice to have a pair, but nicer still to have a pair of Ganesh, the Elephant deity, probably the most loved of the entire Hindu pantheon.
Devotion to Ganesha goes far beyond the Indian sub-continent; the name and attributes are understood all the way east to China.
The medallion shape is the commonly used temple representation.
