Fine Australian Chrysoprase. The above handcut teardrop pair are of Queensland origin. Chrysoprase is a green Chalcedony, a form of Quartz, the green colour due to the presence of nickel. There exist a number of Chrysoprase sources world-wide; Australia is known for its consistent apple-green colour. Oddly enough, it is better known in Asia than in Australia, for its colour and appearance can be quite close to that of the highly-prized Imperial Green Jadeite, and, indeed, in Asia it is often called “Australian Jade”.
The Fine Australian Chrysoprase in the above gemstone pair are well-matched in colour and cut, excellent translucent natural apple-green gemstones.
Note the last image in the above gallery, showing the very clean finish at the rear of each gemstone.
