Both the large black cabochon Sapphire and the smaller cut Sapphire set below the Black are from the east of Australia, the smaller from the long-established Sapphire fields of New England in northern N.S.W., the Black Star cabochon from the Anakie region of central Queensland, source of virtually all Black Star Sapphire material. The six-point “Star” in the above Australian Sapphires pendant is particularly distinct, a very good example of an Australian gemstone not found elsewhere in the world.
The above pendant is handcrafted in Sydney to a Christopher William design, the concave hammered oval of Silver, the rest, the settings for both Sapphires, the curling surround at the top and its long, elegant bail, all in hand-worked solid 9ct Gold.
This Sydney-handmade pendant contains 5.2 grams of solid 9ct Gold, enough Gold for the creation of two sturdy 9ct Gold ring settings.

The black cabochon Sapphire (14.7×11.8mm dimensions, 10.19ct in weight) displays a 6-point star, or asterism, under sunlight and under direct pin-point light; the asterism is a permanent feature, shifting wraith-like across the surface, following the light source.
