.96ct Cushion Sapphire. In the description above, the Sapphire is described as “Ceylon-type”, meaning that the Sapphire, while not certifiably Ceylonese, is of that very high quality, in colour, colour saturation and clarity, associated with AGrade Blue Sapphire gemstones from the gemstone mining areas in the centre of the country. (The same areas in Ceylon, now called Sri Lanka, have been worked for precious gemstones since ancient times, first by alluvial mining on the beds of rivers and streams -still practiced today by many small artisan miners- then by shaft mining.
The above .96ct Cushion Sapphire is from Madagaskar, another island, situated off the east coast of Africa.
The ring, fashioned by hand in Sydney by a master bench jeweller, is very strong. 6.55 grams of solid 18ct White Gold in the making.
The ring has been so heavily reduced in price due to Christopher William no longer being in the business of creating precious items such as the above.
