1950s Yellow Baltic Amber necklace, Polish almost certainly. The conical beads were purchased through the antique trade in South England, roughly strung on coloured twine; the small round yellow Amber spacer beads are also old, also Baltic, but more likely from the late 1900s. The whole, the lovely warm look of the strand, has been created in Sydney.
The original 1950s Yellow Amber conical bead necklace, whatever it originally had as spacers, certainly had been much worn, much loved, but well cared for, by an owner who would have frequently give it a wipe with a damp cloth after wearing, for its colours are still warm and vibrant, its sheen fine.
Baltic Amber comes in two basic colours, yellow (or butterscotch, usually more or less opaque), and the more transparent honey colour. The above necklace has a number of the more transparent honey Amber conical beads, and the combination of the two makes a lovely natural, organic mix.
Note: the necklace has been strung in Sydney, on tiger-tail, plastic coated wire; two benefits of this tiger-tail stranding: 1. it is strong and difficult to break; 2. it holds shape when worn. When not worn the strand should be stored so as to be not subject to kinking, for the plastic coated wire can kink if scrunched.
