16x10mm Amber centrebead, in a necklace created in Sydney, with deep orange-red genuine gemstone Coral, two handcut Turquoise tubes of lovely natural sky-blue on either side of the 16x10mm Amber, and 18 green-blue tubes of ancient glass, handcut from shards excavated in northern Bactria up close by Afghanistan’s border with Turkmenistan. (Interestingly, the colour of this ancient Bactrian glass is quite similar to the colour of the beads of ancient glass produced in Israel, also from excavated shards.)
The 16x10mm Amber is an old bead, purchased along with a handful of old “butterscotch” Amber beads, all by their cut and look obviously Tibetan, and this bead could also be Tibetan, though the evenness of its cut could indicate a north African origin. In any case, it is a fine old example of “butterscotch” Amber.
The necklace is professionally strung in Sydney, on silk and knotted here and there throughout. This sort of stranding is of high quality, executed by one of Sydney’s leading Pearl threaders.
