The origin of the gemstones is the rugged north-east of Afghanistan, where Lapis Lazuli mines have existed since antiquity. 3500 years ago the royal craftsmen of ancient Egypt worked on Lapis Lazuli from these same mines. Interesting to contemplate the long and arduous journeys the traders of those times undertook.
