Swedish Brooch, Silver handmade 1960s, set with a fine blue-tinged Ceylon Moonstone in one of the three frond forms. This Swedish Brooch is a good example of the top quality handcrafted silversmithing of Scandanavia, especially of Sweden and Denmark, in post WWII years, continuing the tradition popularized by Georg Jensen in the early 1900s of flowing, almost schematic Art Nouveau styling based on organic forms and often set with semi-precious gemstones like Citrine, Amber, Green Quartz and Moonstone.
The construction of the above Swedish Brooch is seriously robust, with each of its five components, of three fronds and two blooms, securely held in place by two solid solder joints
The stamps on the rear of one of the fronds show the Swedish crown symbol and the Silver mark, along with the maker’s mark.
Note: the end retail price of this brooch, $450 including GST, would today, end 2024, barely cover the cost of the labour involved in the producing of such a fine piece of work by a Sydney bench jeweller capable of this level of craftsmanship.
