Moroccan Craft in Silver and layered wood earrings, totally and very cleanly handcrafted. This smart Silver earring example of Moroccan Craft is the work of the same Berber artisan clans of the Atlantic coast Tiznit area who have for the past decade produced enamelled Silver jewellery inspired by their own jewellery traditions, their output aimed squarely at the European market.
The above Silver earrings represent a departure from Berber traditional styles, on several fronts: 1. the very precise wood layering work is very modern, having nothing to do with Berber jewellery traditions; 2. the very form of the earring pendant itself, a neat juxtaposition of triangle and hemisphere is, again, modern and not traditional; 3. the designs engraved into the Silver are distinctly Tuareg, from the Tuareg nomads of Mali, a very long way across the desert sands from the Atlas Mountain Range fastnesses of the Berber tribals.
