Old Amber, Old Silver, necklace. The Amber beads are Tibetan, much worn, very old, origin the Baltic Sea. This “butterscotch” Amber was probably introduced into Tibet by Chinese traders centuries ago; it is still a most favoured gemstone in China. It became one of the three most favoured Tibetan gemstones, the others being gemstone Coral, also via China, sourced from the waters off Taiwan, and Turquoise, the Tibetan gemstone, mined in western Tibet since antiquity, the calming gemstone, absorber of anxiety.
The old Silver amulet that centres this necklace is Ethiopian, from Afar bordered by Eritrea in the north and Djibouti to the north east. One of the images on site for this necklace shows the rear of the talisman, brass, a rear finish often found in very old traditional Ethiopian Silver.
The four round Silver spacers are old handmade tribal Afghani, from the Ghazni area bordering Pakistan.
The Silver “rope” chain on which these old Silver pieces are threaded, is new, traditionally crafted in Jaipur Rajasthan, with traditional end caps and hook clasp.
