Antique Bohemian Garnets and Rose Gold earrings, the two seven-Garnet settings from what would have been a multi-setting necklace or earring set of the late 1800s, mined in Bohemia a region now in Czechoslovakia but then part of the Hapsburg Empire.
The claw settings were handmade in Rose Gold but the Gold used there, in those days, was of variable quality; these settings are around 5ct to 7ct. The earhooks are Sydney-made solid 9ct Rose Gold.
Settings 10mm across, total eardrop length 22mm.
Victorian England consumed such quantities of this Bohemian Garnet, loved for its gorgeous deep red, that the stock of this gemstone was irretrievably depleted. There is still a large “Bohemian Garnet” market in Prague, but the gemstone is now mostly imported from India.
